[NOTE: This event was not sponsored by the LWVGB. It is included here as community information.]

On October 13-14, 2009, the Interfaith Environmental Initiative of Alabama (IEIA) hosted Energy Forum 2009: Changes and Possibilities for Alabama at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The forum explored sustainable options to meet our growing energy needs in Alabama.

This from the IEIA:

"From the start this [was] a collaborative endeavor, convening leadership of groups such as Alabama Environmental Council, Alabama Faith Council, Alabama Power, Alabama Rivers Alliance, Alagasco, Birmingham Southern College, Cahaba River Society, Episcopal Diocese of Alabama, McWane, Protective Life, and the Public Service Commission to develop a conference around energy challenges and opportunities in a format that facilitates creative conversation while producing practical solutions. (See www.interfaithenvironmental.org for Energy Forum 2009 Partners.) IEIA is committed to facilitating collaboration and information sharing to produce workable decisions and outcomes for sustainability in Alabama.

"Energy Forum 2009 keynote speaker Stan Meiburg, Ph.D. is Acting Regional Administrator for EPA Region 4 where he served as Deputy Regional Administrator since 1996. He has been with EPA since 1977 and is recognized for his knowledge and his collaborative style. He received EPA’s Gold Medal in 1990 for his work on the Clean Air Act Amendments. Dr. Meiburg will present a broad range of energy possibilities for Alabama, with a focus on energy efficiency."
